To make things worse, our society hammers home the idea that we need to always be evolving and growing and getting better. We come into the world as perfect little beings and then grow up being told constantly how we should think, feel, speak, and behave, according to what society thinks is correct.
When we cannot meet those expectations, we begin to feel like there is something wrong with us, and we hurry to find out what it is and to fix it.
