Is it a good idea to have a trick to cry on cue?
Earlier this week, we discussed reaching extreme emotions easily, so I think today's topic is very apropos!
It seems like EVERYONE has a surefire "trick" to start the ole' waterworks. Here are just a few I have heard actors share:
Using tear sticks imbedded with menthol and camphor
Staring directly into a bright light right before the scene
Using substitution
Hurting themselves
Thinking of something sad or upsetting
It blows my mind that the acting community thinks of reaching this emotional state in terms of "tricks" and shortcuts. I understand that there is pressure to perform over many takes, but it's also part of being a professional in the business. You're going to have to repeat your freedom, your joy, your anger, and yes, even your sadness.
When you watch my free training, you’ll discover…
Why some actors think they need to rely on tricks.
You're not fooling anyone when you fake it, especially the audience.
How to get to a place where your instrument is abundant and limitless.
I feel so passionately about this topic (and maybe get a little loud in this training 😂), but I think it is important for your foundation as an actor.
So, watch the training below
After you watch the training, it’s time to fess up! Have you used a “trick” to cry on cue before? (No judgment.) What are you going to do moving forward after watching this training? Let me know by posting a comment in our private Facebook Group, and let’s discuss this topic further.
