Can you cry for real? Without tricks?

Is it a good idea to have a trick to cry on cue?

Earlier this week, we discussed reaching extreme emotions easily, so I think today's topic is very apropos!

It seems like EVERYONE has a surefire "trick" to start the ole' waterworks. Here are just a few I have heard actors share:

  • Using tear sticks imbedded with menthol and camphor

  • Staring directly into a bright light right before the scene

  • Using substitution

  • Hurting themselves

  • Thinking of something sad or upsetting

It blows my mind that the acting community thinks of reaching this emotional state in terms of "tricks" and shortcuts. I understand that there is pressure to perform over many takes, but it's also part of being a professional in the business. You're going to have to repeat your freedom, your joy, your anger, and yes, even your sadness.

When you watch my free training, you’ll discover…

  • Why some actors think they need to rely on tricks.

  • You're not fooling anyone when you fake it, especially the audience.

  • How to get to a place where your instrument is abundant and limitless.

I feel so passionately about this topic (and maybe get a little loud in this training 😂), but I think it is important for your foundation as an actor.

So, watch the training below

After you watch the training, it’s time to fess up! Have you used a “trick” to cry on cue before? (No judgment.) What are you going to do moving forward after watching this training? Let me know by posting a comment in our private Facebook Group, and let’s discuss this topic further.
